Upgrading IEEE 1394 – Firewire

firewire.jpg
News for champions of the Firewire standard, the system or standard will be undergoing another evolution boosting transmission speeds up to 3.2Gbps from the current 800Mbps standard. The regulatory body which manages the standards for the said communications protocol say that the new upgrade will not require any new gadgets or connectors and use the currently used ones which would be very beneficial to more and more people who have had to deal with tons upon tons of cables for the different digital devices that they use everyday.

A move for the said speeds will boost the reliability and speed of the standard surpassing even the older USB2.0 standard as the protocol of choice for high speed high volume data transfer. The said standard is used mostly by video and digital camera devices as the preferred connection method due to its speed and reliability. More and more digital video recorders and camera’s mean more and more Firewire users which has existed alongside USB for a while. There is another benefit which would be seen soon for the ability of these high speed transmission speeds using copper based systems means it might become the future connection medium to take the place of short and expensive HDMI cables. This has happened to fiber optic cables which used to rule the purely digital home theater but due to huge costs quickly faded as a fad replaced by more conventional copper based connection systems. The management and regulatory body promises to make final the revisions to the current standard by February the next year and the changes would be felt as soon as the middle of the next year.
