iPhone 4S which was recently launched in the market is known to be having remarkable features and a lot of applications and since it has innumerable games and applications it has been facing a lot of issues regarding the battery life. The battery is drained very quickly. Any users who have switched to iOS 5 have experienced the problems of quick battery drainage. iOS 5 has many new and interesting features like improved notifications centre, reminders alert, iMessage and many more. It is a great issue because the device has all the amazing features that it should have and the battery time is very short.

One of the best feature of iPhone 4S is SIRI but SIRI uses internet connection and lot of data is downloaded when SIRI assists you and downloading data from internet drains your battery. One reason for the short battery is also that there are a lot of applications and when you use them some of them might not be closed and so they use up the battery very quickly and some might use a lot of battery while running.

iOS 5 itself uses up a lot of battery to run. So the stress on the battery has to be reduced in order to make it last long enough. You could also use the underwritten tips for your iPhone 4S, iPad or iPod touch or any IOs 5 device that you have.

1. Turn of wifi

One way to prevent quick drainage is by switching off the wifi whenever you’re not using it. This can be of major help in preventing quick drainage.

2. Turn Off Setting Time Zone

You could also turn off the setting time zone. Go to settings-Location services- System services. By doing this your battery life would improve by up to 40%.

3. Switch off all Location Services

If you’re a great fan of new apps or games and love to download them you obviously use up a lot of battery .You can switch the notifications from on to off if you don’t want to receive constant notifications.

4. Disable iCloud

You could also turn off your I-cloud but by doing that you would not be able to use the iCloud features. Go to Settings- iCloud- Documents & Data and click on Use Cellular to off.

5. Keep Brightness at Medium Level

If you keep your brightness at maximum level it will consume up a lot of battery.Keeping your battery at medium level can help increase battery life.

6. Turn Off iTunes Wi-Fi Sync

If you have a continuous Wi-fi sync if you turn it off you will have better battery backup time.

7. Turn Diagnostics Off

Diagnostics consume up a lot of battery and so turning it off can save a lot of your phone’s battery.

8. Turn off Vibrations

Try not keeping your phone on the vibration mode to save up considerable amount of battery.

9. Turn Push-Notifications Off

Turn your push notifications to off to save up battery.this can also be of great help.

10. Complete Restore

If by following the above tips also you are not able to sustain your battery for long go for a complete restore of your phone but remember to back up before you restore so you can revert all your apps back.

Just over a week ago I wouldn’t have believed you if you told me that I would be raving over a thermostat, but that’s exactly what I’ve been doing since I heard about Nest.

Nest, dubbed “the learning thermostat”, is probably one of the coolest gadgets (or hottest?) gadgets I’ve heard in quite a while. Sure, there are plenty of mobile devices that excite me, but the fact is that the demand for these mobile devices is such that you will see cool features left and right. Thermostats though are devices that seem to be stuck in time. This is perhaps one of the reasons why a new thermostat that smacks of innovation excites the geek in me; but enough about why I like the idea of an learning thermostat, and on to what it is exactly that makes this thermostat super cool.

Nest is called the learning thermostat not just for marketing purposes, but because it learns about your habits and preferences and is able to put the data it gathers into good use allowing you to save much on electricity. “Teaching” Nest to learn your habits is, however, no big deal since all you need to do is install it, answer a few basic questions (i.e. Should Nest start heating or cooling your home?), and then leave it alone to do the “learning” all by itself. Within a week, Nest should have come up with a schedule that is personalized to your needs. Even better, it adjusts the schedule to make it even more personalized as it gets more information about your daily, weekly, even monthly habits as time passes. In short, this thermostat programs itself.

You can also access Nest from anywhere using your mobile phone via the Nest mobile app, or on a PC connected to the Internet and adjust the thermostat anytime you want to. You can use the app to manage all thermostats at home if you opt to get one for each room, or even for thermostats located in different houses. And as for updates, there’s no need to do anything since Nest also automatically downloads and installs updates as long as it is connected to your Wi-Fi.

The Nest is already available for pre-order in the US for $249 with pre-orders limited to 5 units per person.

Well it seems that that someone is Steve Troughton-Smith of Dublin, Ireland. 9to5Mac reported that Troughton-Smith, who has been working exclusively with them to find a way to port Siri on the iPhone 4, has been successful at the task.
In the video showing an iPhone 4 with the iPhone4S’ Siri and Springboard files ported in, it is plain to see that it is indeed possible for Siri to work on the older iPhone 4 model. This then puts into question why Apple just doesn’t allow iPhone4 users to download Siri or at least go to Apple Centers for an upgrade, saving everyone valuable money (except Apple of course), and lessening the environmental impact that switching to newer phone models always lead to (Oh the waste!).

According to 9to5Mac, the port is still not flawless since Apple does not authenticate “commands to its servers from the iPhone 4 hardware”, which is obviously unlikely to happen anytime soon. Siri’s voice is also “sluggish” on the iPhone 4 compared to the iPhone 4S, due to a GPU driver that is lacking in the older phone model. They, however, say that they are working on making the Siri iPhone4 port better, which results is something we really look forward to.

This year is special though – the iPhone 5 is pretty much set to fix everything that was wrong with the previous versions, and establish Apple’s name on the mobile market for good. It’s been a bumpy road, but all of Apple’s fans are eagerly awaiting the new Holy Grail of gadgets.

Any true geek is already planning what they’ll be doing with their own copy of the new toy – it’ll be great for pretty much everything that a smartphone has to do these days. Browsing is, of course, a main feature – and with the added multitasking capabilities it’s going to be even more convenient and easy to do. There are some rumors that Apple have put extra special effort into coming up with a solid music playback system in the new iPhone, though the rumors about an integrated audio modulating chip still haven’t been confirmed.

The new screen looks like it’s going to please many people too – the added protection and the extra picture clarity (inheriting from the already successful previous incarnations of the device) are going to pretty much swipe the competition at once. There will inevitably be some great Vodafone iPhone 5 deals available as soon as the device rolls out as well, so you should be able to get it at a reasonable price. So, are you hyped up for one of this year’s most important events in the geek community?

Well, diamonds have long been revered and acknowledged to be the hardest substance on earth that the only thing capable of cutting it would be another diamond. Diamonds if you don’t know are made from carbon through which the millions of years under intense pressure and heat in the earth’s crust has transformed it into a very tough symmetric crystal that is almost indestructible. It cut’s glass and has a sense of mystique breaking up light into the many wavelengths that show up as the colors of the rainbow.

Then scientists and material manufacturing experts who have been experimenting with the production of artificial diamonds in laboratories and industrial complexes producing diamonds of industrial grade come up with a reliable and repeatable method for doing so. The second largest use for diamonds are for industry where they are used in abrasives/drills, Semi-conductors and coatings for optics giving them an almost scratch-proof finish, the first being for jewelry. That is why scientists have developed ways to manufacture them in the lab, taking only days rather than thousands or millions of years. These diamonds are at the microscopic level and they have also found it to be one of the best conductors of heat and around. Disks of diamonds that result from man-made processes can cut through ice with only the body’s heat transmitted through the finger compared to gold, silver or aluminum (today’s most widely used heat dissipation products). This makes it a candidate for future heat sinks and other technologies that would require heat removal such as cooling systems for super computers and such. Costs are still quite high so doing expect to see a diamond based cooling system for your PC but they are developing applications for these man-made gems.

Gemologists have argued that the influx of man-made diamonds is a threat to the value and standing of natural diamonds that they may someday be impossible to tell apart. The only give away of an artificially made gem is that it is too perfect. Perfect color (which can be blue, yellow, clear and many other shades depending on the minerals that were present in the carbon as it crystallized) and the absence of cleavages or cracks and flaws are the main giveaways. They are also seeking to have trace elements to be included in the carbon mixture to give some form of detection method making it easier to recognize a real gem from the rest.

Mobile phones have made its mark as a necessity nowadays and with companies such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola continuously tried to create alluring and innovative enhancements to their mobile units and try to outdo each other.

Unlike in the early days, all that was required was a means of being able to communicate wherever they are. Then came the size of a unit after which the boom of text messaging made its mark. The capability of a phone to take pictures with built-in cameras followed suit and so on, until today where technology has totally taken its stand with regards to ideal phones by the masses.

Today, the enhancements, features and different capabilities of cellular phones have made their mark to distinguish each phone from another. Flip phones, video capturing and colored screens with specific resolutions have been the talk of the town anywhere in the world. But one thing that has been totally overlooked is for a phone to be able to help in communication by anyone in the world especially when the need to be far from the people they love.

So the next time you consider buying a cellular phone, think about it. Do you really need all these features or simply because people are falling for them for no apparent reason? The answer lies on how a person needs such devices, but if not, why go for such phones that are simply the same for mobile communication all the same.

Remember the gadget Dr. McCoy waves in front of injured people that gives him the entire picture such required medical information form injured person and even dispenses the right amount of drugs to cure all ailments? Well that’s fast becoming a reality for medical technology has moved towards miniaturization by making medical gizmos and gadgets that are portable and capable of interfacing with mobile phones to send data to medical facilities allowing them to broadcast recommendations to the attending emergency crew, but it still can’t dispense drugs on its own.
Medical technology has been catching up and is one of the most to benefit from new discoveries made with materials and microelectronics and it goes on everyday. A new toothbrush, a new test for cancer and new genes discovered with use of some of the world’s most powerful computers that crunch numbers at the tera-flop level. All this to understand something that is not even visible without and scanning electron microscope. New fabrics such as the new ones with Chitosan that have their own built-in antibacterial capabilities and to ward off germs and bacteria. The stuff is so good they’re talking about using it for Military Uniforms. New materials that save lives such as Kevlar and Nomex that have resulted form studies of spider silk which is many times stronger than steel.
New and smaller medical gadgets mean more lives saved all over the world and in the battlefield. Man’s drive to improve the quality of life is getting better and better, just wish the money and technology would come cheap enough for them to help the millions of people who live below the poverty line of most developed countries where most lives are lost without a fight.

Nope, it’s not a disease, but rather the stark realization that your old vinyl records, VHS Tapes and black and white photos are fast becoming obsolete and forever destined for the garbage can. There is help though for the many baby boomers out there who do need help with such conversions in order for most analog gadgets and gizmos to have their contents converted into the proper digital format that would allow them to be used with your iPod or saved onto high quality DVD’s for eternity (well, not an eternity but as long as the DVD retains it’s ability to hold the information safe anyway for even they have life spans or expected time frames before they fail). Many technologies such as voice recordings on cassette tapes, old video on reel tapes, Black and white photos of the days of old and many other older analog technologies that have long been overstepped by the digital revolution.
For photos there are scanners that allow you to digitize them and convert them to your preferred format for storage and viewing. Old photos are sensitive and some even crumble due to time and climate conditions. Digitizing them makes them available for manipulation and restorations as well as playback as a slideshow on your PC or TV. Old VHS tapes can be digitized through several appliances you connect to the video in port or through the USB port that with accompanying software allows them to be converted into digital video formats and even DVD’s (this you’d best leave to the experts for it takes almost a day to convert a few hours of video but DIY is still possible and widely available). Old 8″ vinyl can be transferred onto your multimedia players through similar appliances that converts them to popular audio formats.
Lastly, this world is ruled by the law of supply and demand and as long as people need help with such analog to digital conversions, there will always be entrepreneurs who would provide the services necessary. Whether you aim to do it on your own or to hire a professional conversion firm, it’s up to you, but do it quick for technology changes as a very fast rate that it may again render today’s technology useless by tomorrow.

Even if I owned one of every generation of iPod and iPhone I don’t think I could fill the Parasync, a nifty charging and syncing dock that can handle up to 20 devices at once.

The only real downside is that it seems you have to sync all the devices to the same iTunes account, though you can probably put different libraries on each device, and of course iPhones and iPod touches will handle apps as well.

I wonder what the record for the number of Apple portable media players owned and actively used by one person is, and whether they’d stump up the $980 to own one?

Laptops like most consumer electronic goods are hard and sensitive to shock and even the most expensive ones which use some of the best technology can offer in terms of shock protection. Then comes the ability to produce electronics circuits onto flexible substrates that would allow them to bend and twist without damaging the circuitry and other electronics parts which could herald the age of the less sensitive electronic products. These products are already in use but the future holds more surprises such as the flexible laptop that won’t cease to function after you kinda’ sat on when you were on the bus.
These flexible gadgets and gizmos (OLED’s for example are just some of the exciting new fields of applications for these flexible electronics) would be better for you can’t fathom the amount of abuse we subject current gadgets nowadays. The cellphone that prevented your car door from closing, the iPod that fell out of your pocket while you were skateboarding and many other crazy stuff that would all fall as “out of the terms and conditions of reasonable use” that not only invalidates the warranty but utterly removes all hopes of future repair. Having flexible electronics would allow these gadgets to withstand the twisting and wrestling they undergo in out pockets as we scramble to stuff them full with all the other must have gadgets every time you step out of that door into the world.
