Palm Desktop Applications have been one of the common gadgets we see around. To most it helps take the place of the old school style of maintaining planners and appointments while to some, it is simply getting in with the times.

PDAs can be usually seen nearby executives and people who are always on the go. But to seriously use such devices religiously has not been that convincing, considering that it is a gadget that seems to be overrated.

One thing that the PDA has leaned on is technology and reviews according to the people who look for them and own them. Not all people will need a PDA, especially if they are not aware of what it is really for.

Using a Stylus pointer and opening some applications that come with the PDA is perhaps the basic thing to do. Alarms, notes and calculator application, people may eventually ask, why a PDA when people can use their advanced cellular phones today?

Photography has rampantly grown and a lot of people have invested largely in making photography as a hobby and a lot has to do with the advanced features that imagery offers.

Such areas are not given much attention in the normal phase of life. But such are investments to which one day; such stored and solicited knowledge shall be of big use towards other people and big entities who seek better knowledge as well.

Software applications have little bearing on the burning output of a compiled project. Nero and Roxio, two of the better known burning software today, contains such features of CD burning. People would rely largely on the default setting, the default of which is the maximum writing speed of a DVD/ CD writer drive. The usual speeds offer 12X, 32X, 54X and 72X among others.

Compatibility once the project has been successfully compiled will always be the next area for consideration. A burned CD that fails to play would usually be over-burned or be linked to compatibility issues with the independent player being used. Ideally, the default speed for conservative burning is 12X or the maximum speed of the drive is capable of.

If you didn’t answer Tetris, then something just might not be right with you! Tetris IS the best selling mobile game of all time, and no one can argue with that. It’s been more than two decades since the game was invented but its popularity still remains. Perhaps it is due to some sense of nostalgia. Kids who used to play Tetris on Game Boy or their old personal computers or the Family Computer just want to relieve the glory days. Then again, even this generation is finding the game irresistible!

Still doubting my statement? I guess it’s time to crunch the numbers: there have been more than 100 million PAID downloads of Tetris. Now take note of the adjective: paid. We don’t know exactly how many people have downloaded the game for free (wherever that is).

A short history lesson: Tetris was invented in 1984 by a Soviet programmer. It became really really popular about five years later when Nintendo hit the goldmine with Game Boy. Back then, if you’re old enough to remember, the Game Boy was the IN thing.

Today, one can download Tetris for the iPhone and practically any other smartphone. The prevalence of these mobile gadgets certainly has contributed to the longevity of the game but we cannot discount the fact that the game itself is showing its tenacity and appeal.

Speaking of cute, have you seen this USB thumb drive from Mimobot? Dubbed the Pink Meletta, it is sure to catch anyone’s eye – geek or not! I have to admit that when I first set my eyes on it (albeit via the Internet), my attention was caught. Not because it’s pink. Not because it’s a thumb drive. I don’t really know why, but I found myself wondering if I should get it or not.

Valentine’s Day is over now but it never is too late to get someone a gift and I thought that the Pink Meletta would be perfect for someone I know. More than being a simple flash drive – how anyone could think that something designed like this would be simple, I don’t know – it also has preloaded content. Let me name a few: graphics, sounds, and video. I don’t have to say that the content is all about love and cuteness, do I?

Still, if you are into those things or you know someone who is, $24.95 for the 1G version is what you need. If you want more storage, you just need to add more to that price.

Kinda like Apple’s Time Machine. When your Windows computer is idle, and the Lacie drive is plugged in, Carbonite will automatically find new or modified files, encrypt them twice, and then transmit them via https to a secured data center.

This service is a $50 value and is only available for drives which was purchased after October 15. Boy, this is such a mind cruncher if you’ve gotten a drive before this date. I wish companies would make offers a little more generous, or say somethings great to happen way in advance! I love how Apple does it.

I wonder how this plays with media files though. With Lacie’s latest offer of a media portable HD, will this offer automatically upload huge modified or new media files too? Ouch! That will be a bandwidth hog specially if you’re sharing bandwidth, like say in an office?
