More on Bug Lab’s Lego Consumer Electronics Products and the likes ( Part -1)

Most budding programmers and developers of years past were familiar with the platform for the products released by Bug Labs is similar to the prototyping system implemented and used by electronics enthusiasts. Based on very simple processor, a bit of memory and power regulation circuits, what these guys did was pure genius. They standardized the interface by using USB, Firewire and other well used and accepted connection standards enabling budding developers to mix and match gadgets allowing them to say create a GPS referenced picture book or Video log. These combinations vary according to the user and the way these gadgets worked and interact with each other is up to the developer or programmer who tells the specific devices what to do when. If one is knowledgeable with the prototyping platforms for compact sub systems such as time- logger terminals which used single chip PIC-Microcontrollers which had all the necessary components all one chip (simple processor, a few megabytes of memory and a power regulator) which could be programmed with the use of a simple interface with your PC (which used to be the serial port). The serial port of PC’s of old were in fact the easiest interface to use for it was fast, provides some power for the controller for testing and allows just about any computer with a serial port to become a prototyping machine. It also has the advantage of having a gadget that you can program to do stuff independently sending data to the host or main computer for collation and interpretation of the gathered information ( kinda’ like the internet huh…)
