Barcelona – AMD’s Quad Core Microprocessor

In the never ending for supremacy in the processor wars, AMD has suffered another blow which is weakening yet again it’s small foothold in the microprocessor market. The delay was announced by AMD after bugs and hardware fixes had to be implemented in its bid to equal Intel’s Quad Core Technology Microprocessors already in the market and beginning to cover new ground.
AMD has announced the release of it’s Quad-Core Spider architecture which was hoped to maintain the share of the market by AMD. This technology is very much awaited by Extreme Gamers due to unprecedented graphics performance but due to the release of Barcelona it doesn’t look good at all for AMD. The Barcelona processor is based on current latest technology 45nm chip production.
Intel on the other hand has announced and shown their ability to produce chips in the 32nm range and has shown signs that the said technology would be available in production by 2009 of their latest microprocessors
In mid 2008, Intel is also releasing its Nehalem processor which has eight cores integrated into one chip, further increasing the gap between the market shares of both companies. It was said that the peak of micro-architecture was reached a few years back but Intel has managed to further the ever smaller manufacturing process for the said electronics parts. AMD which has managed to gain ground in the early 90’s was one of several companies to survive the processor wars when many chip manufacturers lost ground and eventually gave up due to ever increasing costs of R&D.
