Nintendo launches the new DS!

The new Nintendo DS has been unveiled in Japan this week and as expected it has a 3MP camera, a bigger display, enhanced audio functions, an SD memory card slot, a full browser AND It is relatively slimmer than it’s older generations.  It will go on-sale in Japan by November 1 and will be distributed in other major markets worldwide sometime early next year.

The buzz about the new Nintendo DS has been here since we’ve been awed by the new Sony PSP rivals.  I had the suspicion that it will come back with a vengeance, and I think I’ve hit the nail spot on.  Not that I’m some kind of wiz that knows the future, but it just makes business sense to compete with the Sony PSP.  I think the new Nintendo DS somehow trumps the some of the features that we all have with our current Sony PSP slims.

The built in camera, for instance is a really cool idea.  And the memory card slots… gravy! :)

New NDS, according to Nikkei Net

There has been consistent rumors that Nintendo is already making a revamped Nintendo DS. The company though has continuously denied such claims.

But according to Nikkei Net, Nintendo is indeed working on a revamp of the DS. The media organization claims that the product will be out this year and the newly redesigned portable gaming device will have a camera as well as have the ability to play music. The wireless capabilities of the device will also be greatly improved. There are even claims that the camera can be used during games as an added enhancement to gaming.

Nintendo has recently issued a statement regarding the Nikkei Net news release still maintaining that they are not making a new DS.

Texting in the US now a national trend

The US is now catching up with a trend that has caught the rest of the globe by storm years ago.

According to a study made by Nielsen Mobile, a company that claims it is the world’s largest provider of consumer research that is specifically geared towards the telecom and mobile media markets, text messaging has now overtaken voice calls in the country. During the second quarter of 2008, a typical cellphone user in the United States sent 357 text messages while only making 204 calls.

Nielsen Mobile, this trend began over winter last year and this is most likely not going to reverse soon. The company said the transition from voice to text is moving at a very swift pace. Good to see the US now a texting nation, too.

Nintendo to release WiFi Network Adapter

Nintendo is set to release its own brand of WiFi adapter to general consumers this month. The new Nintendo WiFi network adapter will be released in Japan this coming September 18 and will probably see a US release in the coming months.

Nintendo’s decision to release it’s $53 adapter has left many people scratching their heads especially since there are just so many products out there that fulfill the same functions. What it does offer though is a very unique simplicity in setup. The product can communicate with a number of WiFi enabled gadgets, including PCs and other game consoles. There is also a “bridge” feature that serves the function of interpreting signals from the Nintendo console to the router.

I am pretty sure the Nintendo fans will lap up this gadget just like any other Nintendo branded product.

Leapster2: The new gizmo for kids

As a dad, I have a tendency to gravitate towards toys for my son that have a geeky bent to it. It’s the same reason why I love Leapfrog’s Leapster2.

My son already has the first Leapster but I think the Leapster2’s features are quite nifty. It now sports SD card support, better graphics, and a USB connection to a PC. This new connection allows you to connect the device to a PC and download more games as well as play online. There is also a rewards system that you can “redeem” online. The Leapster2 is also compatible with Leapfrog’s Learning Path.

The whole service will go live this month… and I’ll probably sell of my son’s Leapster and upgrade to Leapster2.

The day after Thanksgiving, ah the consumers’ day.  For those who don’t know yet, Black Friday is where all the sales … big big sales happen.  People line up way before store opening, the more popular stores get about 2 blocks of lines at probably 11pm.  Just after Thanksgiving dinner.  Now that’s what I call, [...]
