A prequel is a story related to an original work which seeks to provide an explanation of the origins of certain characters or situations. Instead of providing a story line that comes after the time period of the original movie, a prequel will try to establish the beginnings. It is like a back-story that is intended to provide the background leading to an event. Some movies that were expected to have prequels include the following; [Read more…]
The Party Geek’s Guide to Drinking
We geeks definitely know have to fun. We like parties as much as the next person and can hold our own when it comes to drinking. What’s even better is that we take drinking to the next level, not just enjoying the drink itself, but enjoying analyzing the drinks as well. This is perhaps why the experiment published in Gizmodo entitled “Shaken or Stirred: Which Gets You Drunker? A Scientific Exploration†is an article any party-loving geek would appreciate.
While I encourage you to read the entire article itself, which gives you not just the results but outlines the methodology they used as well (And yes, they were pretty scientific about it), here’s a quick summary of the results from the study.
- Shaken drinks win for coldness. If you want to get your drink to get cold as fast as possible, shake it. In the experiment shaken drinks’ temperature dropped down to 29 degree F immediately, while the stirred drinks’ temperature dropped only to 38.1 degree F.
- Stirred drinks win for purity. The drop in temperature of shaken drinks comes with a price, diluting a drink by up to 1.75 times more than stirring does.
In short, if you want to pace yourself, then shake your drink. But if you want to get drunk faster, then stir it.
Other recommendations of the study include shaking cocktails that have juice, dairy, or egg whites, and stirring those that only use spirits—such as martinis and Manhattans.

FREE Geeky Activities That Can Make You Feel Better
I had a bad day. No, I am having a bad week. Let me correct that again, I have had a bad month…maybe the first half of the year, even. Oh well, thank goodness I have some spare time and I can think of FREE things that can make me feel better. Maybe you can use them too…
Mooch a book.
This weekend, why don’t you hole yourself up in your bedroom? Borrow a good book from one of your friends. Better yet, get a free e-book somewhere and use your e-book reader (I use my PSP). You don’t even have to get dressed for the day. Just stay in and immerse yourself in a wonderful fantasy novel!
Oh, and check out this site called BookMooch. You can give and get books all you want!
Play a game.
You can do this alone or with friends. With the mood I am in, I am probably better off playing Guitar Hero by myself. Otherwise, I might end up hitting someone with my guitar (and no, I cannot afford to buy a new one). Anyway, this is a perfect blues chases. Get out your favorite video game and forget the world.
Play around with Wolfram Alpha.
Wolfram Alpha, in case you haven’t heard (shame on you!), is the newest in search engine technology. Heck, its creators do not even call it a search engine. It’s a computational something…yeah, I need to play with it a little more.
