In the move to become eco-friendly even the most unlikely businesses are going green. Take for example the funeral business which has started to introduce coffins and urns made from biodegradable materials that do not pose a hazard to health and environment. Their logo, the green way is the way to go, go back to the earth that is. Coffins used to made of more traditional materials such as wood and metal some of which are treated (painted, trimmed) with toxic paints and other preservatives. Coffins made of wood do degenerate in time but ones made of metal allows people’s remains to be recovered and placed in small containers also in the same plot to make room for more occupants.
The trend has a move back to more eco-friendly materials such as wicker and bamboo (which has also been made into bio-friendly cellular phones) which is either weaved or made into planks that do degrade faster due to little cosmetic materials applied. This comes as space is at an all time scarcity in the world’s cemeteries which may be the only business on earth that is not affected by any economic or global factors, why, everybody is going to die the question is when.
The move began in England, UK where people are finding ways of doing all they can to lessen their carbon footprints on this earth and even after they leave the earth and go into it. Might seem ironic for the human body decomposes at an average rate of around 5 years, which leaves only the bones and hair(which is made of a natural form of plastic which does not degrade along with fingernails).
If wicker does not fancy wicker why not go for cardboard which looks like wood and can be made to look like traditional materials but are also biodegradable and can be left to go as is with no further need for exhumation for removal of metals which sometimes contain lead.
So, the next time you think of preparing for the unfortunate? Consider going green for a greener exit from this earth.
