Benchmarking is a method used to evaluate the processing speeds of different hardware and software platforms that is used for evaluation processes by industry experts. This allows them to make decisions on which tasks work better on these platforms and vice versa. But this benchmarking test was conducted on a different scenario, to test products from the same company with the same lineage, XP and Vista.
To the surprise of many, Vista even with the soon to be released Beta-SP1 performed poorly than XP also running the same tasks and on the same platform. This is another blow to Microsoft who has been lobbying for the phasing out of XP by June of the next year even with the scheduled release of SP3 in the first quarter of next year. This has shown industry that the latest is not always the best and what better way to show this than by the said test.
XP has evolved into a stable platform and has had 2 upgrade packs SP1 and 2 that has addressed many issues since it’s release in 2003. This adds to the doubts of company leaders into going Vista, whose doubts have been somewhat proven and substantiated by the said benchmark tests. Giving Microsoft a taste of it’s own medicine
