Just a little over ten years ago, a cellphone with a colorful screen was just a dream. And today, we have so many features and extra gadgets on our mobiles, some people are even forgetting the original intended purpose of these devices – to talk. How have they been evolving though – and what were the notable changes which revolutionized the market?
There are a few key points in the development of cellphones which have made them the convenient devices they are today. For example, it wasn’t until 1999 that antenna-free cellphones started becoming popular, thanks to the Nokia 3210 mainly. This is without doubt one of the most convenient features of any cellphone today compared to those available back then.
Additionally, one should consider the screens – the Ericsson T68 wasn’t the first mobile with a color screen, but it was certainly the one that really set this as something standard, and was followed by the products of Ericsson’s competitors later on.
Afterwards, each company took off in its own direction, more or less – Motorola have been known for their extravagant designs, Nokia – for their durability and innovation, and Sony Ericsson are popular among those who value comfort of use above all. And thanks to all those little developments that have occurred through time, today we can all enjoy our own cellphones just the way we like them – businessmen have their pocket computer-like phones to aid them, teenagers keep clicking the buttons on their MP3 players integrated into their phones, and pretty much everyone can capture their precious moments with their phone’s camera. It’s a device that’s become an indispensable part of our lives, and we can only imagine what it’ll look like after ten more years have passed.
