Fashion is not exclusive to a certain group of people only. Any adult is free to follow the latest trends or go for the traditional styles that he or she likes. Depending on one’s personal preference, anybody can wear an attire that he or she likes without necessarily having to follow the newest styles.
The geeks are no exception. They have their own signature look although this is now changing what with the so-called geek chic look they’re more known these days. Unaware to some of you, the phrase geek chic is now recognized and included in the Oxford English Dictionary.
For people who consider themselves a geek or who simply like the geek fashion, there are certain clothes, accessories and footwear you may need to use to create that unique style.
Stylish Accessories
Whether you have a vision problem or not, wearing a pair of eyeglasses is cool. Just be sure that it’s not too big or too smal for your face and it looks good on you.
You can add a watch (a Star wars or super Mario maybe), suspender and for the girls a few pieces of jewelry such as bangles, hoop earrings in gold, silver or plastic as long as they match your size and outfit.
For the hair, the females can have it straight or curly depending on your personal preference. Braided and cornrowed are acceptable then wear one or two hair clips or a hair band that blends well with your attire.
Mix It with Other Styles
It’s okay to mix geek chic with the indie, hippie, boho, urban or emo style. It’s all about creativity and individual style but do remember to keep it simple and not too trendy.
Another tip is to combine a professional and classy look. Layering is a good idea such as wearing t-shirts over polo shirts or even long sleeve blouses. You can also pair a blouse meant for the office with a pair of jeans. The trick is to look casual yet professional.
Match It Right
Other than mixing your wardrobe, matching them is also recommended. While it’s okay to layer your clothes, just make sure the prints and patterns match and not clash.
Girls can wear short (but not too short) or knee length skirts. Choose from the pleated, pencil or A-line types. They can be of any fabric as well such as khaki or denim, plain, printed or checkered.
Match you skirt with a knee high colored socks. Again, keep in mind that they have to match or blend with your outfit’s color.
Gone are the days when these geeks just keep to themselves with few or no friends at all and weird fashion sense. In fact, a survey done by Inferno, an advertising agency, found that intelligence and passionate engagement with a hobby is four times more attractive in a person compared to his good looks and fashion style.
