Mention ZoneAlarm and every single PC user would immediately recognize the name as one of the first software firewall solutions that achieved mass popularity. The internet security suite that it distributes is considered as one of the most highly used in the market mainly because of the free version that it provides to PC users. But ZoneAlarm is now ready for the next step as it announced that it is planning to get into the hardware market with a new high end wireless router that it is going to release to the market.
The Secure Wireless Z100G router will be employing both WPA2 and IPSec encryption. It will also be featuring both firewall and antivirus protection, ability to connect to Super-G, remote access capabilities, as well as an extended wireless range. The new router is scheduled to be brought to market in November. Check Point Software Technologies, the mother company that produces the ZoneAlarm security suite, said that the new wireless router will be marketed towards home networks.
The decision of the company to enter the competitive hardware market was driven by the realization that there is a growing trend in the number of security vulnerabilities being found on home networks. Additionally, the more elaborate attacks actually do not go through the gateway as well as security measures that are installed on the computer.
The makers of the router are promising a level of security that, they said, would be adequate even without installing the ZoneAlarm suite on their computers. The company is also boasting that the router will offer a level of customizability that has yet to be seen on a commercial product. Support for the router will also be given in the form of periodic software and antivirus updates.
