Who Wants An iPad?

January 31, 2010 By noemi

I cannot believe that I am saying this, but I don’t. Not really. I mean I wouldn’t mind receiving one as a gift, but I could think of so many other things that I would rather have than the iPad. Don’t get me wrong – I love Apple just as much as any other person out there but it seems to me that the iPad is not what I want at the moment.

Apple critics have been lambasting the iPad left and right. Apple fanboys and girls have been praising it to the high heavens. What is it, really? Is the iPad going to change how we do things just like the iPhone changed the world of mobile phones?

I don’t know, I am not the expert, but for personal reasons, I would much rather get a new MacBook Pro (the smallest model for mobile computing purposes) OR an iPhone OR a Google Nexus One (for mobile phone purposes). So why am I taking this stand?

I like the looks of the iPad well enough. I like its size. I like how cool it is. I like the price. However, I don’t want to be limited to 64GB of storage and not have a USB port. I also do not want to be limited to running one app at a time on something that I will be using as a computer. They’re two simple things but they are top priority for me right now and that makes the iPad not so attractive at the moment. I think that’s a good thing for me. Otherwise, I would be spending money that I might not really have. 😉

Google Nexus One – I Want!

January 13, 2010 By noemi

108528_nexusiphoneFor the longest time, the only phone I wanted was the iPhone. At the end of last year, I swore that I would get my hands on the iPhone 3GS. No ifs or buts, I will find a way to get one before my birthday (I still have over two months).

Then they released the Google Nexus One. Last week, the blogosphere was buzzing about the new Google phone. It’s Android-based. It’s Google. It’s perfect?

Well, not quite, but it does seem to have so many things going for it, even when compared to the iPhone. Tech magazines online, bloggers, and practically everyone seem to be touting the Nexus One as the “real iPhone killer.” I don’t care, actually. I still want the iPhone (I am actually talking to someone who’s selling these babies) but the Google Nexus One just WON’T leave me alone.

For what it’s worth, I have been reading a lot of complaints about the new release. It seems that the Nexus One has problems with getting a 3G signal. A lot of posters in forums claim that their 3G service is spotty. Worse, they do not know where to get help. Some go to T-Mobile, which is the “official” carrier while others go to HTC (the manufacturer). Both groups do not offer help, though, and point to Google, which supposedly is no help as well.

How true is this? If the forum posters are to be believed, then it is very true. Then again, I was looking at the help/support forums – of course I shouldn’t expect many positive things there, right?

So, if I can only afford one, which should it be: Google Nexus One or iPhone? I want both!
