Robotics has not made much noise ever since the development for such gadgets to assist and provide various utility services for the human race was born. While a lot of these robot type gadgets have been offered in most parts of the world, none have been successful with regards to being a household name.

At the recent CES, WowWee’s new robot introduction offers more than a robot that is made up of wires aimed to do routine work as programmed. Roboquad, a security type and scanning robot is a small but efficient robot that can assess and scan a room and its objects for people who want to surveillance their homes at given times, especially when they are not around or are sleeping soundly.

But then again, Roboquad was meant for something more than a security toy. Instead of having pets, seeing Roboquad around is like having a security guard and a pet in one, in a more technically inclined aspect at that.

iKaraoke for Ipod, Say It Isn’t So?

All gadget freaks are aware that the Apple iPod has been the talk of the town when it comes to miniatures and portable sound listening devices. However, today, there is the new add-on which allows song lovers to sing their favorite tune thanks to the new upcoming iPod accessory Griffin’s iKaraoke.

The good thing about it is that people are not expected to sing while listening to their favorite tune on the iPod. Connected to a stereo, owners can take away the vocals and just hear the actual tune of their favorite melody and instant karaoke! Ingenious indeed, this new installment for iPod accessories is expected to make an impact, especially for people who love to blare out their singing voice.

For sure the iKaraoke will be the next talk of the town. Especially now that the various promotions for local private singing contraptions have been set out in the market, Apple’s iPod series seems to have done it again.

Modified Xbox 360 Update Tries to Fix “Defective” Update

Game piracy is one of the biggest problems of game and console manufacturers and any of the previous attempts to curb piracy has met with failure both on the part of the game manufacturers and game console companies.Recently, game console manufacturers have started turning to a more radical way of preventing piracy by instituting periodic firmware updates to their respective machines. These firmware updates not only bring additional new features to the machines, more importantly, it attempts to fix any vulnerabilities the machine may have that can be exploited by hackers and pirates that would allow them to play pirated game discs.

So far this tactic has worked fairly successfully. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft have all instituted firmware update protection in all of their machines. Unfortunately, there is no protection from a firmware update that is fundamentally defective.

The recent firmware update that Microsoft released for the Xbox 360 had the unfortunate effect of “bricking” a number of machines, effectively rendering them completely useless pieces of plastic. A number of Xbox 360 owners reported getting an Error Code E71 when they installed the update, which was released this fall.

Microsoft claims that only one per cent of Xbox 360 owners were affected but has already stated that they are committed to resolve the problem immediately – which is still not a good enough statement for the affected players who will not be able to play Gears of War this week.
